Default Catasetums media

Hi all...

I just got a shipment of 4 Catasetums seedlings from Jumbo Orchid. It is currently grown on moss. However being in tropical area, I don't really favor the use of moss for orchids because I grow orchids under trees and moss gets soggy when it rains.

I am thinking of change the potting media with charcoal or is it better with coconut husk? Btw the seedlings are of Clowesia russeliana and Catasetums rebecca northern hybrid.

Thanks in advance!

I have one of the hybrids you have, purchased over the summer and is doing well. I think now it's known as Clowesia Rebecca Northen from what I was told.

maybe this might help:
Sunset Valley Orchids - Grower and hybridizer of quality orchids, Vista CA

congratulations on your new seedlings, I'm sure you'll grow them well.

By the way, I'm originally from Bandung and currently living in Maryland.
I'll be going back home for visit to Bandung sometime next year, maybe you can show me around some of the greenhouses or orchid nurseries in Jakarta.

Kang AJ,

Thanks for the advise. I will probably use charcoal since it doesn't break easily and hang it in clay pot.

The hybrid is actually susan fuchs x rebecca nothen. Might take a long while until bloom since the bulb is only no bigger than thumb at the moment.
