Are phal leaves supposed to be purple? Female
Question Are phal leaves supposed to be purple?

I (finally) have a new leaf growing on one of my Lowe's rescues, but its coming up purple... Is the purple leaf normal?

This is what I can tell you about it:
1) It sits about a foot-foot and a half from a window facing NE-E.
2) The flowers are a purple/magenta.
3) The older leaves are a dark green/purple mix.
4) The rest of my collection is in the same window at varying distances from it- some dead even with it. They all have green leaves- kind of a mossy emerald green.
5) The new leaf is pure aubergine -like Hallmark Cards' purple.

Any help/answer is MUCH appreciated!!

If it looks normal other than the color, don't worry about it. Two of my green/purple leaved phals come up just purple when young. They will turn to more greenish color when about 1/3 finished.

Some phals do this, espeically when they have purple flowers. It can also be an indication of high light (but not enough to burn).

As James says, if it looks healthy then don't worry about it.
