B. nodosa/Little Stars - Orchid Board

I just purchased several catts. from Carmela's Orchids in Hawaii. Along with my oder I recieved a free plant, B.Little Stars. I'm trying to find information about this plant. I see it talked about on this forum along with B. nodosa. I thought Little Stars was a nodosa. Can someone tell me about this plant and how to take care of it? It's very cute, came in spike and is supposed to be fragrant.

Nice gift! Their care is the same as the nodosa with same light. I have mine in Hydroton (all my Brassovolas), and they're watered twice a week. The flowers are similar to the nodosa but, smaller and the fragrance is different, strong, beautiful aromas that give off their scents in the evening. To me, nothing comes close to the nodosa...the most heavenly.

I love this genus. I just found a nice plant of this hybrid at Lowes for $12 with 2 spikes!

Yes, a primary hybrid between nodosa and cordata.

Sandy yours seems in sphagnum more than hydroton.
how do you use hydroton? SH or reg?

I have one too - came with poor roots and 2 or 3 growth. one spike. one growth has nice green leaves and the others are a bit yellow. but the spike seems to get longer. putit in hydroton SH and crossing fingers about rooting...

Hi stef. This pic is when I first purchased this over the summer. It's not sphagnum ... not sure what it was but similar to epiweb. Actually, what I did with this one was placed the pot into a larger pot and filled it with the Hydroton. Brassovolas are very fast growing and their roots find their way to the Hydroton quickly. These don't even need potting but if that's the preference, they need to be potted high in the pots, just enough for their roots to get watered. They don't like staying wet. S/H is a totally different approach to growing orchids. I never got good at it and much prefer traditional potting.

well I put mine in a slotted small round plastic basket with hudroton that I placed into a clear plastic cup with hydroton. so if i eventually want to switch out of SH should be easy.
I buried it slightly under the hydroton for stability.

hope it will put out roots. it was an order that was a good deal. 3 plants but really poor roots [small enc cindy, Lc roebling, and B Little Stars].
