Default Vandas Under Florescent Lights

I grow a few vandas outside during the summer. I have now brought them indoors for the winter and put them under florescent lights.

I recently read in an orchid guide book that "vandas do not do well under florescent lighting". I have two questions: Why don't vandas do well under florescent lights and if this is the case, would I do better putting them in a bright, lighted window for the winter? Thanks..

I've never read that but then I live in zone10b. II would look around here and see other threads on growing vandas indoors. If it were me I'd go with the window.

I hang them on my south window.
put a cheap ikea railing just above the window.
and i supplement with a CFL.

saw a thread of someone in the UK that was successfull with window culture.

wonder if you could get a couple of T5 under cabinet lights at home depot and put them vertically on the sides of the window.
the Vandas at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden bloom in the conservatory with no addl lighting. Those closer to the southern side seem to be blooming more

I know it's possible to grow vandas indoors, as Marilyn (GrandmaM) grows all of hers under lights in a basement. I don't remember what lights she has, but they're quite strong. I don't think it's florescent lights, maybe a MH or something similar. Hopefully she will see this thread and give her opinion!
