Rain & Cool Night Temps outside

Ok, trying to get a grasp on my first time watering and rain while it's cool out. Our temps have ranged anywhere from 42/night to 85/day. Average tho is 50's night/70's day. Bringing all of the orchids below in except for cymb if it may go below low 50's then back out during the day.

I'm watering in the morning if they need it so they can dry a bit before night. My question is we are getting a bit of rain here so many times they can go into night being truly wet or get truly wet during the night. Should I just bring them in if they are wet or going to get wet and below 55?

Hello. Live in the same zone here in Massachusetts.
I,personally leave mine out regardless of the rain. I leave my dendrobiums out until mid November and all else comes in when the temps stay at a constant 40 to 45 degrees. "Knock on wood"......have had good luck doing this.

I'm not quite a daring as Donald, mine will be coming in by the end of Sept. I do leave them out in the rain though. They get rained on in their natural setting. When they are outside they are getting constant breezes and fresh air, so they will dry much quicker than they will indoors. Even if the tree leaves are just moving a tiny bit, that's an incredible amount of air that's passing by.

I am a commercial nursery and grow everything outside under shade cloth year round.

My cold weather is later in the year and not as long, but I never concern myself with temps down to 40. The orchids you listed can all take down to 32 but if it goes under 32 and the water in the plant cells freezes and expands it breaks the cell walls and will kill the plant.

I would stop the in and out each day. If you are afraid of leaving them out then keep them in. The changes will cause more problems.

Ok, good to hear that about the rain. They enjoyed all of our rain so much this summer I was hoping it would still be ok but was worried so I was bringing them in. It's better to ask I'll keep them out and let them enjoy it through at least this month.

If you're worried about fungus starting, you might want to give them an application of Physan or a dose of hydrogen peroxide.

Yes, fungus is one of my worries tho everyone looks fine right now. I don't have any Physan or anywhere local to buy it. What would be the ratio of hydrogen peroxide, which I have, and water just in case? Is it sprayed on or is the plant dunked? Thank you
