too hot is it?? - Orchid Board

the winter and rainy season is nice and cool here but the summer(4months)is extremely hot which is always above 40 celsius and it was 40 celsius last night!!
can i somehow grow any types of orchids(want to grow vandas and cycmbidium)outside with shading??
and can i grow dendrobiums and phalaenopsis in like 35-36 celsius?? with a lot of aircirculation.

Hi, and welcome to the board!

Your question's answer actually involves some other issues that you did not include:

1) What is your humidity and do you have the option of increasing it if too low? (That is under 50% typically)
2) What are the temperatures during the cooler months?
That is, the extremes of temperature that your growing region experiences.

Both of these are vital to know before giving you tips of what you can expect to grow well in your environment.

You may have a hard time growing any orchid with temp above 35c. As far as cymbidiums, sorry but no way. Much to hot.

35c is about 95f.
Alittle on the warm side?

well - its frequently that warm or warmer in summer here - tho - always cools 25 - 30 degrees over night so can't say its 'ok' for any type or not if you aren't getting the cooling.

I don't really know anything about warm growing cyms, but mayber someone else who does will chime in.
There are phal species that are 'hot' growers - how 'hot' is 'hot' i don't know lol - I don't grow those

Assuming they get sufficient humidity and water, many phals would LOVE those temps!

yes the humidity can be increased.i will glady even mist them ten times a day with humidity trays and water them everyday.and the year here is like 7-8 celsius lowest, and 24 celsius maximum in winter 4-5 months. and 28 celsius minimum and 45 celsius maximum.

I'm just a newbie myself, but isn't Kuwait on the dry/arid side? Are you prone to an occasional dust storm?

If growing outdoors, you may want to consider an enclosed greenhouse.

i dont really live in kuwait.i live in pakistan i chose kuwait because pakistan wasnt on the countries list.
