Default Vanilla question

Howdy all,

I'm a new member and have a question regarding my vanilla orchid. This is a small (for vanilla) orchid only about 18" long so far. The other day while watering I broke off the growing tip. The orchid has responded by turning brown and shriveling back to the next leaf internode. Will the plant regrow a new tip from one of the leaf internodes like other potted plants do?

Thanks for any help.

Very likely, as they are often propagated by cuttings.

Well Fishman...I certainly hope it's not a problem because I did the same exact thing a few days ago!
I'm sure it'll be fine. The piece I started less than a year ago was 18" and it's now over 6 ft and going strong

What do you have yours growing in? Mine is in a large pot with African Violet Mix and trained going up a tree fern totem (that I need to keep adding to )

I'm sure our other members would like to meet you...we love to hear about orchid collections and seeing pictures just makes us all happy, happy, happy
We have an Introductions forum...hope to see you around

I have mine growing in a mix I created myself that was recomended to me by the person who gave me the cutting. The mix is pretty close to an african violet mix without the sand though. I used regular "orchid bark" some Super Soil and coir for the organic matter with a little charcoal and perilite. For now I only have the orchid growing up some cork bark and I am going to need to add some length soon (or longer depending on the time it takes to start a new growing tip).
