I was stupidly messing around with the flowering stalk of my Psychopsis Papilio Mariposa. I managed to break off the flower and the next flower bud on the stalk one knuckle back from the end. It looks like there is a viable bud remaining at the broken end.

My question is will that bud form a new bloom, or should I cut the stalk back closer to the plant or am I just out of luck until a new flower stalk starts to form.

I was depressed for the rest of the day after it happened. I guess that will teach me.

Man, don't you just hate it when that happens! I'd leave it alone. There's a very good chance that it will grow another side spike and keep blooming. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Good advice. I checked the bud a few minutes ago, and it looks as though it has already grown a little bit bigger! I really can't believe how fast these guys grow. Simply amazing. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part...

I totally know the feeling. I was messing with my Phal. Mini Mark the other day and suddenly the green tip off my new growth was gone. I wanted to cry

There will be more no matter how careful we are. Sometimes we just can't leave them alone right??? Good luck with the remaining bud pbphut!

I am constantly taking Psychopsis to shows and too often break the spikes.

From experience I can tell you do not cut the spike. almost every one broken has continued to grow from a lower node on the spike. Often it will branch and produce two or three branches with a flower on each.

I do not have the nerve to intentionally cut them to produce more flowers but it happens every time.

Whew! That's great news Jerry. I haven't done anything and now I won't. I'll just wait and see what develops. Thanks for getting back to me. I was hoping someone with Psychopsis experience would chime in.

This board is a real asset for Orchid enthusiasts of all experience levels.
