Dendrobium aggregatum leaf problems Male
Default Dendrobium aggregatum leaf problems

I won this beautiful den at my first meeting of our local society in April. I put it outside. It bloomed but got too sunburned and I kept it in a south facing window that loses direct sun by 1 or 2. All of the purple has gone, so the light is not too bright now. But even when outside I began to have the black spots on the leaves and the hole opened up. Now I have yellowing leaves and more spots. The newest bulb (which started since I got the plant) is the largest and plumpest. I have many new roots on the surface (I'm not sure how well they show, but they are the white in the medium).
Are the leaves just old and dying? What are the black spots?

It's damage. Nothing to worry about. I don't think it'll spread.

I would invest in a systemic anti-fungal/anti-bacterial medication just in case you have real break outs in the future (or just in case your plant does have disease).

Try looking into Phyton 27. You can get it at an affordable price at Buy Orchids and Orchid Supplies.

But I really think you don't have a problem.

Good luck. The plant seems to be grown correctly (other than the sunburn).

Jerry, The pseudobulb on the yellow leaf is very shrivelled so that leaf will probably drop off in the near future. Although some of the bulbs are nice and plump, many others are very shrivelled so I'm just wondering if you are giving enough water. I think the white roots are healthy. Do they turn green at all when you water?

I don't think I am giving the plants enough water. I just did a 15 min soak with them yesterday. I had been just letting water with fertilizer wash thru them 5 to 6 times(8 ounces each bottle) twice a week. It is apparently not enough. I am planning to go to semi hydroponic

Make sure you have good new root growth before you transfer to s/h, if you don't you will lose all roots.
