onc. twinkle white pbulb

yikes! - pbulb on twinkle turned white - started at base and advanced - also some white at base of new growths.



the pbulb has wrinkled slightly and is a bit soft, but not mushy.

don't think the white is advancing on the new growths, tho I am not certain yet

I have this plant in the same light as some other oncidiums which do not show this -

I hope someone has ideas on what may have caused this and suggestions what-if anything - I can or should do for it

I think that pseudobulb is toast. I'm not exactly sure what is causing it, but my first guess is because it's overwatered due to overpotting or damaged roots.

Then there's the possibility of bacterial rot.

Check the root system first.

If the roots are healthy and strong and the pot fits the root system just right then your plant has a bacterial infection.

For microbial problems the suggested treatment is with Phyton 27 which is supposed to be chelated copper sulfate. Copper sulfate is toxic to many kinds of pathogenic bacteria.

I did just now pot this down a bit - roots are ok - but there arent as many as I would like - thats how I got the plant

I had it potted in cocohusk chips - switched to bark in case it was staying too moist

I will see if I can get my hands on some phyton

It won't be the end of the world to lose this plant - but is a good learning experience trying to save it so your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi "wabbit"! I am far from being a plant pathologist and tend to have only two classifications of orchids with respect to health; those that are definitely dead and those that are dying!! It looks an awful lot like bacterial rot to me. I would get rid of that bulb as well as the new growth coming from it and put the 'good' end in new mix.
