Default Dendrobium cane fell off can i repot or what do I do?

I told you guys I had lots of questions but I am at that stage where I have a few orchids that have bloomed and now they are at the point where I need to figure out how to make them bloom again. Enough
question: It was really windy here this weekend and one of my dendrobium canes with leaves no flowers snapped so I cut it off.

what do i do now? Can I just put it back in the pot or should I cut off all the leaves and try to get it to grow somehow.. ??

Thanks in advance. I know stupid question but I am plead new orchid addict.

Linnie

Default Hi Linnie

No questions are stupid!

Since no one answered you I hope you figured out by now what to do. If that cane had no roots it was a discard.

I believe my e-mail is available to all so you can e-mail me personnally with questions if you get no answers from this forum. I only joined very recently or I would have answered you.

Randy

Thanks guys, I had forgotten all about that email Well, I confess, it went to orchid heaven.. I tried laying it in spagnum for awhile, and misting it, but it never did anything..

And I am so brain dead these days, I can't remember if it had roots or not, but it is no longer with me now. And I found others to take it's place.. ..

Well Im glad you are still around. I have to confess I didn't respond to this one cause back in 2005 I could barely tell the difference between a Cattleya, Dendrobium, Phal, and Paph; much less help with this. Too bad for the loss, hope all your new orchids are doing better. I also hope Randy finds the time to come back as well.

Speaking of that, there are lots of folks who've dropped out since I got here. Hmmmm wonder if there's a relationship

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

That's what Dends do best, now it's time to fill that space with a nice Paph.

Linnie--in future, if you take the broken cane & lay it down on a bed of damp sphagnum it will form new plantlets from the nodes.Especially handy when it is a favourite that you can't find.

Yea, I think that Den was one of Tony's devil ones, because it never did anything for me. But if it ever happens, I will try again, because I DO like Den's. My first orchid was a dendrobium and it has been mistreated, fallen over at least 5 times, spilled out most of it medium , and it still blooms!! In fact, it has two spikes right now.. I can't kill that one if I try.. It's a noid but I don't hold that against it..
