A rolling cart and one of those spray bottles with the fan attached to the top! Wasn't it brutally hot there?

I was also there with my club but it's not a planned trip for next year...yet

Even if they do go, I'm gonna skip it. I do plan on hitting the WOC in '08

Do you have pix of that sunroom? We are in the beginning stages of turning our screened in porch into an orchid room for me. Unfortunately we have been hit with every problem know to man, we are still trying to get a permit. turns out we need a new septic field with sq feet added of house, then we found out the sprinkler well would be too close to the septic so now we have to have that well tapped and a new well dug somewhere else. I am going crazy , it should have been done six months ago and it is still at the county permit office !! Meantime my orchids are hanging out whereever they can find floor and wall space in the porch. I think they are embarrassed LOL

I have too many to count, and a good number of compots on top of that. Probably 1000+ or so.....and I still have a bit of room in the greenhouse for everything to get bigger. Of course, this is a product of growing these things for 30 years.

Only have 20 right now, but I am discriminating... Almost anything goes! I am currently switching from cacti to orchids (long story) and rarely buy orchids locally more than one at a time. Mail order is determined by budget (I budget only $100 U.S. per expenditure, but I once did that twice in the same week!)

Ouch cacti!! We moved from the Texas Hill country about 6 years ago and had a couple acres of prickly pear and barrel cacti.

I am still picking those spines out of my gardening gloves. LOL though it wasn't funny at the time. Even though though they can be beautiful, I think orchids can one up them any time...

We actually had a neighbor who hired a painting contractor, and we had to call 911 when he fell off the ladder onto a cactus patch!! No kidding, face down..

so... I do not like cactus anymore.... I am sure you will love your new hobby.

I am VERY familiar with Hill Country and have spent a couple winters in Big Bend. Love Cacti, but so do bugs!

I have a patch of Eastern Prickly Pear (Opuntia humifusa) in my yard and my wife fell into it when her moped went over! Wasn't a pretty sight! She was on her way to work at the time so it was especially distracting. Yes, I love orchids, I have grown orchids off and on for many years as did my Dad.

Heh... You don't really want to know how much I buy at once.

At the the show this weekend I did buy a few things. Three Restrepia striata, and 11 streptocarpus (of all things!). I'll usually end up with a half dozen plants per show for my own nefarious purposes. I've decided that I need to sell 10 for every one I buy, though. Good luck sticking to that...

Hi Linnie,

The construction hasn't started yet. It's going to be a room connected to the end of my screen room with a river rock floor (since these rocks are now in the raised bed that the room will be covering, we'll just re-use them). The walls will be mostly horizontal sliding windows with screening so I'll have the opportunity to close the room and turn on the heater on the infrequent nights it gets cold here. It'll also have 2 ceiling fans and 2 skylights. Hubby will be building some tiered racks and putting up rods or whatever for the hanging 'chids.

Guilty as charged I am from the Orchid Shop I got into orchids a long time ago and then got a job at an orchid greenhouse (working with the other crop) and things went from there. I don't limit myself until I run out of money but I am getting to be more discerning. I have figured out what grows well for me and focus on those and then I have my pet collections and my experiments. I really like Lycastes and have a few and want more. My Dad lives in Guatemala so I just have to have "La monja blanca" or Lycaste Skinnerii Alba and I recently replaced my "Cassiopea Wyld Peach" which I had sent to Piper a few months ago.
