Default Whats in a Name?

I am looking for a web page or even a book, that shows in detail the names of various parts of a Phal and a Denb. i hear or read of a Spike, sheaf, keitch, inflorence ( don't know if I'm spelling some of these names, sorry ) a cane. i went to one web page that came closest, but what were shown did not look like anything I had. Most books I've browsed to seem to capitalize on the flowers only. Ortho, Sunset and even Orchids for dummies did not show them.

Default You need to look for botony....

books or sites then to go specifically into orchids from there. Most orchid specific sites are going to go into flowers and not necessarily the parts of the plant. That is the purview of botony.

It's a sin that no one answered this question prior to now. I'm just new to this forum, or I would have anwsered sooner.

Just checking in after the Holidays. Sorry I didn't get this to you sooner. You might look for "Understanding Orchids" by William Cullina, Botanica's "Orchids", "Taylor's Guide to Orchids", or "Home Orchid Growing" by Rebecca Tyson Northen. We have over a dozen books in our orchid reference library and these are the best, in our opinion. We just got the last one for Christmas. It is long out of print and the author is dead but we got it used through Amazon.com for about $8.00 including shipping. It has a wealth of info we haven't seen anywhere else and we're happy to have it.

Talk to Dave, aka Oscarman,

Send him any term and I'm sure he won't mind putting it up in the OrchidBoard Lexicon...If you really nag, he will even put a picture with the term. Dave is the resident terminology guru

Marty

btw, that goes for anyone, if you come across a definition that you feel everyone should know, give Dave a nudge

I am all for that, and I love the 'nudge'!
The more terms we get the better our Glossary will be.
Send me a PM anytime.
