Hi everyone,
It is now time to repot my Ludisia. I've had it for 14 months, and it's in sphagnum in a small 2" pot...it is growing very tall and has no shoots coming off the base of it, probably due to the fact that it's got no where to go.
Should I be placing it in a wider shallower pot? or just go up a size? I heard that they will sprout new shoots from the root area, is this true?
Also, what potting medium should I use, as I understand it is considered a terrestrial type.
Helen, this one is so easy too please (IMHO)
I've repotted mine twice already, its' due for another larger pot in just 1 year.
I had no stall at all, if anything it just grew more the more space I gave it.
I grow mine in my paph mix - 50% peatmoss 25% small bark & small perlite.
This one likes room to grow
PS - yes about the growth - it'll just come up from the bottoms of the pots or anywhere the lil node open up and root.
Thx Gloria...could you please refresh my memory...what type of peatmoss do you buy exactly? I may have asked you this before, but can't find it on the forum right now.

Mine are in sphagnum. I would just take a cutting from the top and stick in the damp sphagnum and watch it take off. But then mine are in 99% humidity in a Wardian case.
Ross, I think I'd be too scared to cut off the top just to start another....with my luck I'd lose it all! I'm a windowsill grower (planning on setting up my light stand this fall) LOL...anyway,
I think I'll repot and see if anything comes up from the base or wherever...I just have to find out what 'type' of peat moss to purchase...I only have the big bag of gardening peatmoss in my garage...I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy a small bag of some? any recommendations?

I wouldn't recommend peatmoss at all. I'd recommend sphagnum. When I say take a cutting, I mean place it in the same pot. But as I said, mine are at quite high humidity. They don't seem to need much fertilizer. Maybe you can place a plastic dome over the plant, or a plastic bag, till it gets settled?
Thanks for your suggestions Ross. It does like it in the sphag right now. If I decided to cut the top, how much of a section? It's approx. 1 foot tall now

Mine is in a very shallow pot in sphagnum. The pot is really more of a pan - think cake pan, but about 3" deep by 9" in diameter - with no drainage holes.
I keep it watered so that the moss stays moist, but none is standing at the bottom.
It's in a bathroom above (yes, above) the level of the window, and there must be a dozen or more shoots on it.
