My oncids are in sphagnum, too. They're quite happy that way. In the growing season, I let the moss get to not-quite dry when I stick a finger about an inch into the moss before watering. I used to always let them dry out completely, but had a problem with wrinkling leaves last summer. Now I go for really dry before watering only during the winter/less active months. I like the amount of control over the moisture that the moss gives me, especially in my climate (fairly humid).
