Clips vs. other option for spikes...
Default Clips vs. other option for spikes...

Hello all! I've been meaning to ask this for a while so here goes. Is there any evidence or even personal opinion on what is the best clip or other option to stand up orchid spikes? From my own experience in my small collection, I have used clips but they can leave a mark, or bruise, or kind of pinch the spike. Can that affect growth? I've actually started using bendable plastic coated wire for some spikes that aren't thick and tough like Phal spikes I've seen some use ribbon or string. What would you say the pros prefer to use? I was looking for a thread on this, but did not find one. Thank you in advance!

I've seen plastic-coated wire ties used, like those for closing plastic bags.

You can use twist ties (similar to those that are used to close food badgs), green ones can ge bought at nursery supply or big-box home improvement stores. YOu may also be able to find velcro-type "tape" in the same places - green (so unobtgrusive) and reasonably waterproof.
