Laelia purpurata pathogen? Male
Default Laelia purpurata pathogen?

Hello everyone. I have a young Laelia purpurata that I’ve had around 6 mths. It was doing well then about 2 weeks ago it developed this sudden injury to the new growth up on the leaf. I treated it with physan 20 and waited. It appears to have gotten over that, but over the last few days it started to darken at the base. Any idea what this is? I treated with a little physan 20 and plan to watch it, but being that close to the rhizome it worries me.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think it is the sheath drying out. If that's so, nothing to worry about.

I agree, that looks quite normal. As the growth develops, the sheath on the outside will dry up. Don't be tempted to remove it, you can injure the pseudobulb if it is attached at all. Physan isn't going to anything for you, save it for killing algae on the greenhouse floor or walls.

I see what you mean about the top of the leaf too, but i think thats just physical damage. Unfortunate, but not a huge deal. I wouldnt worry too much about the problems spreading but keep an eye on them. Also keep in mind that everyrhing except the center leaf and pseudobulb will dry out and turn brown as the growth matures.

Thanks. I understand that it normally dries out, but this one just looks different than all my others when they’ve dried out. I’ll continued to keep an eye on it and hopefully you all are correct.
