Hello all, my Sharry Baby, which I purchased in December with a tiny spike, now has 2 very long spikes. One is 35" and the other is 27". The longer spike has 16 (flower stems?) that have been coming out for many weeks now. I was wondering how much longer will it be before they actually bloom? Do the upper flowers have to come out completely too before the bottom buds start blooming? I know, patience patience. The smaller spike has just barely begun with its flower buds so I know I'll probably have flowers into the early summer, which I'm extremely happy about! 😊 I've included photos. Thank you for your time,
Verna S.

We are all impatient like that!

It depends on your growing temperatures. But not much longer.

Patience, patience... Oncidiums are notorious for teasing you for months... It could still be another month or 6 weeks. And once the flowers on a spike start opening, it could still be several weeks to get them all. But it will be well with the wait! And the fact that you have spikes at different stages means that the "show" will continue for a several months.

I'm trying to have the patience of a Saint! Lol! I've had 4 seedling orchids that didn't do ANYTHING from the time I got them (July 2023) until about a month ago. They seemed to have a nice little growth spurt in January but now, not to much. I get that it might take a couple of years but I know when they're ready, they'll be beautiful! But I am looking forward to smelling chocolate throughout the house for a couple of months! 😁

Oh! I like hearing that! Lol! I live in northern IL so I've kept them in a room that's around 70° in the daytime but drops to around 63° at night. All my orchids are under grow lights, at different levels according to their needs and the humidity is around 70 during the day but drops to about 55 at night. I can't wait until warmer weather comes! It'll make things a lot easier! Lol! I can't wait to see Sharry Baby starts blossoming! Or should I say I CAN wait! 😊
