Indoor Care for Phal. Equestris
Hello all,
I received these 2 from Louisiana Orchid Connection.
I keep finding contradictory information online, so I would like some care tips specific to my environment.
1. Is it true that phal. equestris need to go dry for a bit?
2. What would be your estimate of how often to water in a 80-85F indoors.
3. Is 65-70% humidity okay for them?

I would treat it pretty much as any Phal. I have found that species Phals do better for me in baskets then pots. (Takes care of the "drying" part nicely without doing anything differently than you do for the others). Nice looking plants!

Mine languished a bit in a pot so I mounted mine.
Based on your pictures, it looks like yours prefer a more airy media too. I agree with Roberta's comment, I'd suggest to use a basket if you can!

It has a strong tendency to form new plants on flowering stalks, so you can use a fairly large piece of wood if you want.

When you get those keikis, when they get good roots you can pot them up separately. But if you leave everything together, all the new growths can bloom, making a really nice display. Phal equestris is in the background of many if not most of the branching mini-phal hybrids.

Oh wow!! I really like the idea of keeping them all together...
Also, I have one more question, Is this an example of what happens when you leave keikis together? I just don't know what it looks like. This Phal was brought in at my OS, and the woman who owned it said she had it for a very long time. I vaguely remember her saying she had it for 30 years.

You can leave everything together for a great display, or separate keikis to share with your friends. Let it get big first... then you can have it both ways. This is a terrific species.
