I will be at the Festival, with my parents likely, thank you again!

Would you happen to know whether some of the vendors might honor the AOS membership discount, of $25 off of a $75+ purchase? Just wondering, hopefully! X3

I don't think that you'll find those discounts. Because there's competition, vendors are already charging very fair prices. Also, it's not an AOS-judged event.

just another chime in that we see giganteas as some of the highest priced phals. they are uncommon compared to all the asian hybrids that flood the european market, so vendors charge more and usually its rare to see mature plants on vendor websites (i assume because they sell out of the seedlings so fast). we got lucky with our mature plant, but it was one of the most expensive plants in our collection, not gonna lie. all that aside, a hundo bux for a seedling is silly unless its from a guaranteed tissue culture of some rare awarded cultivar, but then you probly wouldn't be coming across such plants on eBay or Etsy.

edit to add: just outta curiosity i checked the usual local vendors that we use and right now there are a couple mature giganteas to be had anywhere from 50 euro up to 150 (including the 'starship' from asendorfer orchids!...camille, it could be your time to get one!!!) a couple young plants on offer around 30. that seems about average for what we usually see from the professional vendors.

Check out this thread for lots of information about groiwing Phal gigantea : Phalaenopsis gigantea - long term growing project

Mine really took off growing (if my conditions, ymmv) when I repotted it from bark to leca, in a net pot placed in a slightly larger plastic pot. It loves water but loves air around the roots too, so this method allows me to water very frequently. Leaves are now 15inches long and it's produced several spike nubbins, but they never developed into spikes with buds. Hoping with a bit more growth it will have enough dry mass to bloom soon. (note, I got it as a tiny seedling around 12 years ago or so!)
If I get another, I am totally trying this method!
