Me again! (Told you you would be sick of me! )

Okay, so I have a question for you all.. I decided to buy at the local super market (turned out it was more expensive than buying from ebay, but... supporting a local grower, plus the local super market, and not using a shipping company and fuel issues, sooo.. worth it).. And the roots were all a little rough looking. Not *ugly* per se, well, to my eye, but.. the pieces that are tucked down into the moss look fat and healthy, but there are a few roots above the moss that are sort of shriveled (and even look like they've been cut).

I am tempted to pull it to see the root ball and look for rot or other issues, and possibly repot it, but.. I'm not sure if the switch from the air conditioned supermarket to my living room will be enough of a shake up for it that potentially repotting would be a bad idea.

Also, because obviously I am enjoying the lovely flowers, I am loathe to pull it and run the risk of messing with them unless it's in the absolute best interests of the plant!

(For those who are following the drama, turns out my vanilla won't be shipping until monday or tuesday of THIS week. gah. want my vanilla!)

(and because I know you want them, pics are included)

Hi Pei

Nice Phal!

I always repot every chid I get home, no matter where it came from and whether or not it's in spike, bud or bloom. Haven't lost one yet

I'd rather see what's happening underneath early enough that I can do something about it before the plant keels over and I'm left wondering why.

If you just bought it and it's in moss, I'd personally re-pot. Looks healthy and there is still plenty of unopened buds on it... so better to re-pot now instead of waiting until it's done blooming (2-3 months) and have some rotten roots in there. Just my opinion though.

And Sue's...

did you happen to pick this phal up at wegmans? i saw one EXACTLY like this at wegmans this week and almost got it. i talked myself out of it because it was a NOID. there is a new wholesaler in Ithaca thats been selling to all the big super market chains in central and western NY and undercutting all the local growers. he has nice plants but I think the other growers are gonna lynch him

It's a beauty. Nice choice. It resembles Dtps. Minho Princess. Here's a link to a pic of it: Orchid of the Week Library: Dtps. Minho Princess 'Watercolor Artist' HCC/AOS
