Unhappy Light level, so confused at light

My orchid is in a room with west facing windows.

https://i.imgur.com/80Yy92q.jpg

I Have since moved it a few steps back to be on the other wall.

It stills gets direct sunlight later in the day on the way of setting.

So i though i was going to buy so sheer curtains on ebay. https://i.imgur.com/A5RxM2x.jpg which now i think is too thin?

What would you guys do? get thicker sheer curtains or just hang a 30% 50% shade cloth?

Just lower the blind and adjust it to keep the direct light off the phalaenopsis.

Are you seeing signs that your plants are getting too much light?

If you are, given where the plants are sitting in the photo, I agree with Dusty. Lower the blinds so some of the light is blocked and some makes it through the slats.

Shade cloth is going to block too much light on an interior window. Stick with the sheer curtains or the blinds. The sheer curtains aren’t intended to block light, the goal is to scatter and diffuse the light coming in so they don’t need to be thick.

I vote 30% sheer curtain. Works brilliantly for my African Violets in a south facing window and the window still lights up the room.

Judywhite had an article in the AOS Orchids magazine that included a reasonable guide to light levels, utilizing shadows to judge intensity.

Smartphone light meter apps are reasonably accurate if you want to measure light levels. On some phones the number is off by a factor of 10 (units error), so adjust accordingly if that is the case.
