Default Sticky stuff on Cattleya sheath

Hello all,

I had a question about the sticky, clear sap (that happens to be extremely sugary) that forms on new growths, flowers, and sheaths. It is my understanding that this is normal.

However, since I have plants that are relatively close together, could this substance spread germs and viruses to other plants if it touches them?

Thanks.

Plants are very different from humans...
But one thing they do have in common...
Swapping fluids can transmit cooties.

Yes but the receiving plant would have to have an open wound of some sort to be infected or a vector (some kind of pest). Its something I've never really worried about and I have a lot of plants in close quarters.
