Paphiopedilum - new growth?
Default Paphiopedilum - new growth?

I have this paph whose bloom died off in March, and I know they're often very slow growers but it hasn't done anything since (it did suffer from a little sunburn, so I've been assuming that set it back a bit). I've just noticed, though, this little green growth at the base that's tucked beneath/behind this very short root that has grown down into the bottom leaf. Might this be the beginning of a new fan? If it is, is that root going to be problematic for its growth?

Yes, that's a new growth forming. Don't worry. The plant will figure it out and grow well.

I agree with ES, it does look like a new growth although it is still very small but coming from the right spot. I did want to comment, though, that the next time you repot it should be set approx. 3/8 to 1/2" lower in the mix. That will encourage more root growth.

Excellent. Thank you, both. And good tip, Paphluvr - will do.
