Question Does this Phal have root rot?

Okay this is my first post!
First I want to say a HUGE thank you to Ray...who talked to me and made me feel like I can keep these orchids alive.

This Phal was given to me by someone who worked at our Grocery store...it was looking pretty sad and they were going to throw it. When I got it home I unpotted and the roots weren't that bad-did have pete plug which I removed. They had it right by the doors so I think it got cold burned and had dropped all the other buds. I repotted in Better Gro and added about 20% spag as its pretty dry in Michigan in winter. Though I do have a whole house humidifier and keep it between 45-50% pretty consistent. I think the roots are looking phenomenal....both spikes have new growths coming..one might have two. But, I am a little concerned that the stem looks dark and may have rot. My plan is to wait till I receive the KelpMax Ray is sending and dunk it like he is having me do with my baby I am trying to save. Anyone have any thoughts for me?

PS Ray...this is NOT the tiny little phal my friend gave me when I was so sick that I am trying to save. With that one, I did as you told me and potted her up in spag. She is hanging out until you send me KelpMax and then I will dung as instructed.

Hope I added the pics right.

The crown actually looks a bit rot maybe with a little infection, but the roots looks good. I'll probably treat the crown with a bit of peroxide water. Some people here don't like it that much. For me works with rots. Let see what the seniors say.

Those phots are not the best to judge, although I can see a very good root system. Does the plant seems to be well fixed into the medium? Or is it hanging in place just by those dark roots?

A lot of Phal stems look like that. I think your best course would be to give it good care and hope for the best. There's nothing you can do to repair damage from previous poor conditions in the grocery store, but you can give it better condiyions now.

Have you been able to give it warmer temperatures in your home?

I think I did a pretty good job repotting .... having only been repotted a week i think it seems stable in the pot.

Thank you for the info. My home during the day is about 70 degrees. At night it goes down to about 64-65. My phals that aren't doing as well are kept in my exercise room in a north window with no direct light but very bright. I have been thinking about putting a heater in that room at night...trying to decide if it needs it. But no cold winds come in like where they were in the grocery ...they literally had all these beautiful phals 4 steps from the front door when it was 10f degrees out!

One of the characteristicas of crown rot in advanced stages is the crown to be separated from the root ball. My previous question was: does it seems to be what is happening? Or are you concerned about the look of those two dark roots?

A range of 64-70 is too cool for rescuing a sick Phal. Try to find a heat mat designed for plants rather than a space heater. It will use less electricity.

If the crown is rotten it will fall out when you touch it. Does that happen? Crown rot is common when Phals are cool, and rare when they're warm.

No the crown seems very secure and strong. Will look into getting a heat mat. So this would keep the medium they are in more warm correct? Room would still be around same temp.

I am sorry I am very new and may not be using the lingo correctly. The stem (darker part) is very secure to the green part which I am calling the crown (possibly incorrectly)

Curious what would be ideal temps. I have had my eye on a little indoor greenhouse. Put a small warm mist in it with a heat mat and it might be perfect. I saw a pic that someone else did this to warm theirs that was also in cold area.

The crown is the deep central area where developing leaves emerge.

Bottom heat seems to be adequate for Phals. Look up posts from greenpassion in Vermont. She grows really nice Phals in a cool home with heat mats.
