I haven't tried S/H with this group. I would expect they would do very well in it. I just got one with heat damage from a society member. I will eventually put it into S/H. Remember to make the move only when they are beginning new root growth.

Ok, so for now best to leave it on the mount and maybe soak it every couple of days in addition to the daily waterings?

It looks like Better Gro has a White and a Green Lautouriate dendrobium. Not sure which I have, but found a pic of the label for the white one, which says it likes to be at 50-55 degrees in the winter.

I wouldn't let the roots ever dry out. Whatever you need to do to maintain that. I would think these are very hard to keep alive on a mount without an automatic misting system.

I have seen setups where people use a large jar, and stand the bottom of the mount in water at the bottom of the jar. The water doesn't reach up to the roots.

The 50-55 F / 10-12C winter temperature tolerance would refer to night time. Days should be warmer.

If the leaves are still green, and if there's no sign of bulbs turning into an olive colour or rotting colour, then there's still hope for sure.

For dendrobiums, what you could possibly do is to just pot into lava rock (or bark). You can pot into a wide and relatively deep pot if you want. And if the roots are still alive for this plant ------ and if you put the very good drainage pot into an area that has bright light (but not direct sunlight) with nice temperatures ------ and some very gentle air-flow, then the orchid could do ok. Just water the media (bark or lava rock) out toward the rim region of the pot --- allowing the water to work its way down the pot, and drain out. This keeps the outskirts moist, and prevents the bulk of the roots further in toward the middle from getting too wet. So it should allow the roots to get moist air, and allows the orchid to just get on with doing what it does --- ie. thrive and do well.

This doesn't mean to not grow in the style you've been growing. It just means --- try a method that gets some safe and good results, and then switch to back later - once you have a nice idea of what needs to be kept under control, or what might be getting out of control.

Thanks guys! Will be trying to keep him happy. The last three leaves are still on there, and a few canes are still ok looking, so I hope with increased moisture it will live. I do have a misting system, and will be checking often to make sure it gets wet enough.
