What is the egg crate grate and what do you use for the separator?
I know all the ICU phals will make it. Ive never killed my phals before!!
You're most welcome Bribie. The egg crate grate is just a strong grate that allow any water coming out from the holes of the pot to also go straight through this drainage grate.

The idea is that - if a pot dish is used - the pot dish would normally collect or gather the drained water. The drainage grate can help keep the bottom of the pot above the level of any drained water. Or - if the drainage grate isn't thick enough, then the 'spacers' are just anything (little cylindrical pucks of any kind) that allows the level of the drainage grate to be raised higher.

I use pot dishes in my covered growing area. I water my orchids using one of those pump action weed sprayers. (eg. Nylex 8L Shoulder Garden Sprayer Pump Action).

Default Up date of my repotting experiences and dying (or dead) new leaf

—Up date—

I have repotted a handful of FWC phals to bark topped with sphagnum since then with great success. Thank you all for your advices and support.

There is a small phal that’s not doing so great. This one has a tiny new leaf that looks like dead. I tried goggling about it but couldn’t find anything helpful. Can someone tell me what’s going on? Is it beginning of a crown rot?

Hi,
We had temperatures drop and had the first snow a couple weeks ago. Since then we have heater go on and off the temperature is set to 72F. The Orchids are in a humidity controlled room (40 to 55%).
