I agree with Ray. You would do better getting these fungus gnats under control. I've used dunks but now I use Mosquito Bits which same thing really but they release faster. I also went on Amazon and bought Yellow sticky paper that's used for catching adult gnats ( or other flying insects ).
The combo works quite well.

Now days I have a collection of carnivorous plants , butterworths and sundews that do well in the same conditions that I have my orchids and enjoy any gnats that maybe in the area.

I was going to mention pings and drosera. They eliminate fungus gnats well for me

Do you need to have a fan? In other words, is your climate very hot and humid? I've never used a fan with any of my orchids, or plants in general. However, I don't live in a hot/humid climate.

and what are pings and drosera? To me a 'ping' is what I do when testing my internet and 'drosera' conjures up a load of useless info!

I bought one of these el cheapo Honeywell fans and other than a non-oscillator, it works great and you can barely hear it.

Recommendations?

I was looking at one of those sleek Dyson fans. Does anyone have any experience with them? Do they produce much air movement?

I do like a little breeze on the orchids to keep the fungus gnats away after I water them. Fungus gnats are obsessed with my peace lilys.

Thanks!

mount some ac infinity fans around your collection. they're pretty damn quiet

Pings are pinguicula, also known as butterworts, drosera are as named.

All are insectivorous plants. They work quite well I believe. I don't have any myself but I know people who grow in a growroom environment and they say they work. Their only worry is how to feed them after they have decimated the tiny fly population!

Instead of a fan, buy a Butterwort (Pinguicula). I have a bunch of tropical plants that need to be kept moist and like organic fertilizer...this is a happy breeding ground for fungus gnats...except the only time I usually see them is on the leaves of this cute little plant. When they do, rarely, do have a population explosion, I simply put the Butterworts under a bright desk lamp at night and usually this quickly (in one night) solves the issue. The fungus gnats fly to the light, land on the leaves of the Butterwort and get stuck. Rarely, I need to do it a second night. The best part is...the more fungus gnats (or mosquitoes, small spiders, unlucky fruit flies....) it catches, the more it multiplies and blooms.

Before I bought this little plant ($5 at an orchid show), I had quite a few problems with Fungus gnats. My spouse and kids wanted to dump all the plants outside. The plant has been a game-changer.
