Paphiopedilum Complex Hybrid care/recommendations
Cool Paphiopedilum Complex Hybrid and/or Species Recommendations

Hi everyone!

I am planning on purchasing some paphiopedilum hybrids. I only own 1 paphiopedilum at the moment and it bloomed once for me about a year ago. It's a Maudie type NOID. I give it the same care as my phalaenopsis and I think it is doing well.

I am interested in hyrbids such as
- lippewunder x lowii
- Paph Lippewunder x Paph druryi
- Complex hybrids that include Jack Tonkin as one of the crosses.

And a few other complex hybrids. Most are near flowering size and others are FS.

I should mention that the coldest it gets in my conditions is in the winter time around 13-15°c and the hottest can be in the summer around 34+°c. My orchids are located in a a sunroom/den where there are *almost* floor to ceiling windows and the window are not very thick as the room experiences the extremes of the seasons. My noid phals all survived this with no issue and grew beautiful roots in the summer and all spiked in the winter.

Would you say these are easy to grow for someone who doesnt have too much paphiopedilum experience and the conditions I mentioned? Would appreciate any tips or suggestions on which types of species or complex hybrids paphs would work well for my conditions.

Thanks!

Most Paphs do very well with same light as Phalaenopsis.

Complex hybrids will have no problems with your winter lows. Hybrids that are half lowii or druryi might be less tolerant.

Thank you!
The paph in your profile pic is absolutely beautiful!

I am so new to paphs so to stay on the safe side I will stick with complex hybrids for now! I do love the lippewunder x druyi cross but maybe I will save that for another time..

That's like my conditions too. Similar lighting conditions as for phalaenopsis is good for sure.

I do have a relatively big hybrid paph - not huge, but big enough, which does get direct sun sometimes - and most of its leaves are nice lightish green. This orchid is healthy and very strong. One of its leaves is pretty much yellow coloured heheheheh. It has been that same colour for a couple of months - so looks like it's still working.
