I really want a blooming size vanilla planifolia because I am way too impatient for mine to grow to that size. I cannot find anyone online selling one that size however. Does anyone know where I could get one that big?

I posted this in beginners discussion because I did not know where to put it.

Could try contacting/emailing some orchid nurseries to get some leads. Or an orchid society. They could send some possible contacts and hopefully eventually you might be able to acquire a flowering size vanilla orchid.

Remember, a blooming-size Vanilla planifolia plant is minimum 6-10 feet (2-3.5 m) in length... maybe more. They don't bloom until they get LARGE. And will need a greenhouse environment - they're warm-growers, need humidity. And someplace to climb - they're vines. There's a reason why blooming-size Vanilla plants aren't available. Not exactly portable.

I cant ask my society til lockdown's over. I do know vanillas get huge, and I have space for a big one(my mom wiped out a good chunk of my collection).

I don't think you'll easily find a blooming size Vanillia plant, simply because they are too large and cumbersome to transport when large enough to flower. I don't think I've ever come across a large-ish plant for sale before.

The only flowering size vanilla I've seen at a grower was one that was completely wrapped around the greenhouse supports!

Place a 'want ad' on the Orchid Mall.

Most vanillas seem to like to climb to the highest available point and then start down again before they will bloom.

In the process of doing that, it will have intertwined itself quite will in the greenhouse structure, so how in the world are you going to unwind it without breaking the vine?

Likewise getting it to you. Vanilla vines are thick and relatively rigid, so an 8- or 10-foot vine is going to be very difficult to transport.

I suggest that you scratch this one off your wish list.

I’ve seen them on eBay in the past for big $$$ from foreign sellers. You’d probably have to pay a significant amount in shipping and there may be additional costs and work arranging import. Good luck!

I decided to go with a variegated Vanilla: I can enjoy the foliage even if I never get flowers
