I hate that I lost the Cattleya walkeriana shown in my icon photo. That's probably the biggest loss I've had in my orchid growing career. That plant was easily a high AM or possibly even an FCC quality plant.

The two that I lost and wished I had again are Phal. Starry Eyes and Cymbidium Mary Bea "The King". I wish that I had those two plants. My two plants were on display at an orchid show and somebody stole them. I searched all over for them when we were taking down the exhibit. Another member lost a plant that he bred himself. He has since passed away and he was a big breeder of blue catts.

That's just awful!!! What a despicable, vile person to do that to a fellow orchid grower! I can imagine the rising panic you must have felt when they were nowhere to be seen...

Wow! I think this is the largest thread I have ever started.

I am continuing to search google every couple of weeks for replacements for my Trichopilia x Ramonensis and Cymbidium Tiger Tail “talisman cove”. Both of these were auction plants and I’m quite sad I lost them. There are other clones of Tiger tail available but I had wanted an exact match.

I’ve found that it’s easier to replace species than hybrids if they are lost. Nearly every plant I have lost has been to a rot. Fortunately, most of the ones I lost were relatively easy to find again except those listed in my first post.

Maybe I will try to ask around on some of the online forums for wanted orchids at some point to see if anyone has got what I’ve been searching for. Avondale, that is terrible to have a plant stolen. I have never had that happen. Who could do such a thing?

For the first 10 years or so I kept the tags of the fatalities... then when I moved I asked myself "why?" and pitched them. Too depressing. Now, I just check a "died" box in my database... takes up less room. Fortunately none got stolen. That is just the lowest of the low. I know of a bunch of instances where that happened - to superb growers, not just at shows. People have also gotten pollen stolen at shows. (Plant survives, flower doesn't) There is some serious pond scum... hard to believe that orchid people would do it but they do.
