Buying Cattleya with spots? Male
Default Buying Cattleya with spots?

Hi all,

I reached out to SBOE and asked about a certain Cattleya that I've had trouble finding. Excitingly, they have one they can offer me, but it has a few spots, and I'm looking for advice on that before I spend a good bit of money on it. Images embedded here.

They said it tested negative for CymMV/ORSV and the spots are likely just because the plant is kept in a glass greenhouse where the temperature can get into the 30s in the winter. The flower looks clean, besides a couple of brown patches on the edges.

Do these spots look viral or something less worrisome?

Looks fine! Just got to have good air movement to avoid mold growing on the flower during blooming. Air movement is beneficial at all times.

Plant looks fine. Orchid leaves (like the rest of us) get blemishes. Nothing here that looks worrisome.

I don't see anything there that would stop me from buying it.
