1 of 20 buds dies?
Default 1 of 20 buds dies?

Hi friends,

Of 20 buds, the 3rd to last open, 2 remaining to open, has partially opened and now appears kind of dry and slightly wrinkled, like that one has died or is dying.

Is it normal for only 1 to die halfway opened?

The others look fine and expect the last to open.
There was one anamoly: last night while turning the plant around, a nearby bamboo caught a flower and sheared half of one petal off -- however, that is not the flower that appears to be dead or dying.
images attached —- if this is gone, is it? i’m taking it off.

as long as it's not wilting, the sheared one should be fine. the wilting one is a goner, though. a repotting/change in light or watering (essentially a change in environment) can cause unopened flowers to "blast" – basically the plant drops a bud (or two) because it's a bit stressed. nothing to worry about - your plant looks great!

It can happen if something along the chain of events in the flowering/growth processes gets disrupted or not adequately supplied - such as not enough water getting to that region, or not enough light.

19 out of 20 buds opening beautifully should be considered a fantastic outcome.

thanks! i hope i'm wrong! maybe it'll come back. actually, 3 left to open put of *21, 1 mutation that should have been 2, so 22.

You're welcome tedro. When you mentioned died or dying, the current assumption is that it is dying.

But - on the other hand, if that flower is simply still in the process of getting enough water into it to get pumped up and opened properly, then it may eventually just open properly.

thanks neophyte, i hadnt seen your reply!

well, i decided to take action and doused it (spray bottle), gently but thoroughly.
it finishes out the "day" near a low watt "yellow& incandescent lamp. maybe that gives it a color it likes, idk. i made sure that bud coukd see it.
it wants to plump up, but i'm not sure it will make it.
--otherwise, if a plant part is dead or dying , i prefer to remove because i think one needs to spend their energy moving forward!

there’s the “sheared” petal, with “rescue” bud behind it.

That blossom is a goner.

If the anther cap and pollinia have been removed- it sometimes happens in shipment and handling - the blossom will collapse.

Update: i’ve lost and removed 3 partially opened flowers.
1 left to blossom, i think it will.

i changed my supplemental light (shown in album link) to 14hrs -- in the day time by the window. the rest of the time there is ambient light(s); darkness? perhaps 3 hrs, sometimes more... depends when i go to bed.
