Need Guidance on Orchid Grow Lights Female
Default Need Guidance on Orchid Grow Lights

Hello Orchid Board. I am new to growing orchids and need help deciding on the best grow lights to purchase.

Currently my 31 orchids are on the dining room table and in the den's East-facing windows. Family is getting tired of the orchids under their noses; plus, I have a wonderful walk out basement room that I plan to move my orchids into. The basement room has some East-facing windows, but they are relatively small. I need to purchase grow lights.

Here is where I am totally lost: I have a five-shelf wire shelving unit that will work perfectly, but WHAT LIGHTS SHOULD I BUY? (I have Phals, Cattleyas, one Oncidium, one Paph, and one Vanda.)

I went through the threads on lighting and am still confused. Can someone just break it down simply for me? What worked for you?

Thanks so very much!!!!!
ROBB

P.S. I will be attending my very first orchid show/sale in Gautier, MS in a few weeks. Really excited!

HLG 100 V2 LED High Intensity Veg Grow Light

HLG 65 V2 High Intensity LED Veg Grow Light

HLG SABER 100W High Intensity LED Light Bar

all good lights depending on the area you want to illuminate. they make really nice diffuse bright white light. you can go cheaper but these lights will blow any CFL, T5HO or cheap amazon LED out of the water. they are all plug and play and you can attatch them to your racks.

I won't pretend to know the dimensions of your shelves or the IDs of your plants (besides at the genus level), but in my experience there's not much that won't bloom under those $20ish 4 foot 5000 lumen LED shoplights that are sold at Walmart and other retailers in the US. There will be some trial and error needed to figure out the appropriate distance from the bulbs and duration to run the lights. For the really high light stuff or really tall things like perhaps the Vanda, you can go on Amazon and buy some of those 300 watt (or higher) LED grow lights.
