Yes, I do believe he said he had his hanging from a basket with no medium. So I was going to just put some bark in it. Do I have to group them together or since they'll spread can I put 2 in one basket and 2 in another?
I know how to care for Vandas and Phalaenopsis, so this epidendrium is new to me. I did accidentally get 2 dendrobium to produce a flower spike, as I usually can never get those to grow, so I just ignored them and I was rewarded with 2 flower spikes, now down to one because a critter knocked over the pot and sure enough it broke the flower stem.lol.

No need to group them... with three independent pieces you can try different approaches. Or put them together for a better display while they're small, you'll still have separate pieces when they get bigger, making division easy. These are pretty bulletproof. They can grow hot, they can grow cool, with lots of sun or dappled sun... they just grow.

Looks like an Epidendrum Radicans to me which would fall in line with the others that stated a reed stem epidendrum. If that is the case, I grow mine in the yard in Florida, potted directly into the soil, like any other outdoor garden plant. It actually grows like a weed for me.

For what it's worth, I grow mine in full sun about 6 hours a day (afternoon) and it's fine. (Sister plant of Dolly's) Super high humidity, Kansas sun. Having said that... when it comes up from the Batcave in spring, I introduce it over a period of a few weeks in April to the full sun.

This is what I ended up doing with the orchid. (See attached) I tried the ends to the basket and put down a layer of coconut husk (I think that's what its called) and then I put orchid bark/mix on top. So hopefully that works. I'll send some more pictures as it grows/blooms.

Looks good! New growth (and roots) will very likely develop from the base of the pieces, in the basket, but may also emerge from the stem. With your copious rain and humidity, it will probably establish quickly.

Good morning! Here's some updated pictures. I see lots of new roots and beautiful green leaves at the ends, but the top/base of stem the leaves don't look that happy. Should I try to repot in soil? Or leave alone since I am seeing new roots at the bottom?
Thanks for your help

Reed stem Epis do exactly what yours is doing. Exhale and leave it alone.
