How would anyone who doesn't live there possibly know? You need to know the specific chemical properties of any water source before being able to begin to answer that question.

Welcome to the Orchid Board! I don't know how it works in India. Does the provider of your municipal water send out periodic reports on its quality and content? Or are you able to request such a report if you want one?

Without knowing the specific properties of your water, it would be impossible for any of us here to offer an opinion, but I would suggest trying to see if you can find out from city officials.

Do you have orchids now, or are you just thinking of getting some? If you have them now, are you using your city water? If so, are you noticing any problems? Remember, though, that if there are any problems with water or any other cultural issue, it could take a long time to actually show up in your orchids.

If you have other questions that we are able to answer, we'll be happy to do so!

The better place to ask questions like this will be to find local orchid society or maybe a botanical garden or a big local orchid grower.

There will be orchids that are very sensitive to water purity and others that are not. For most plants, a purity of 200 TDS (total dissolved solids) will be adequate. If your tap runs higher or you have sensitive plants, distilled or reverse osmosis may be preferred. Rainwater is also an option.

See if your water supplier can provide you with an analysis or have one performed if that is feasible.

Welcome to Orchidboard!!

As mentioned by others, without knowing what your water is like it's not possible to answer your question. Looks like you already got a few good suggestions on how to get this information.
