Hello,

My husband bought me this beautiful 5 year old orchid about 6 months ago. When I first received it I did some digging through the internet and found some useful information. Everything seemed to be going fine and the flowers fell off which I read was normal. Now all the leaves are breaking off and I can't figure out if this is normal. There are a few new growths on the bottom, but the dead bulb type roots are scaring me! Do I need to re-pot to remove the bulbs, should I leave it alone? Any information would be so nice thank You!

You have what appears to be a perfectly healthy cymbidium. The old brown pseudobulb has done its job and lost its leaves. As long as it is still firm then leave it as it will supply food to what it a small plant.
There is at least one new growth.
Google cymbidium culture.

Terry,

Thank you so much! I will definitely do some more Google searches now that you've given me some direction. I have 3 new growths that I've been keeping an eye on, but I was worried the old parts would cause problems. This is such a relief!

What potting mediumis it in?

A key to orchid growing is to make sure they get plenty of moisture AND plenty of air at the entire root system.

If the potting medium is too compact, water will stay in the voids and suffocate the roots.

I use coarse bark only as a medium.
