Orchid leaves problem

Hi all! I’ve recently purchased a phalaenopsis orchid from the clearance section. It has no blooms but the roots and leaves seemed ok. I already repotted it and removed all old and damaged roots that I found but it started to have some problems with the leaves. The leaves were fine when I got it, I didn’t notice any damage whatsoever. At first I thought maybe it’s sun damage but they keep progressing and appearing on other leaves. Please help me identify the problem and find a solution to save it! Thank you

Hard to say right now what the issue is. It might be necessary to describe the conditions that your orchid grows in right now.

Obviously, it looks like indoors, and there is sunlight exposure, which is ok. It just depends on how much sunlight it gets. Also, watering rate and amount, and whether your orchid gets good air circulation. And what temperatures your orchid has been exposed to. And what temperatures it gets before and after you got it.

So you did get the plant from the clearance section so it might not make it.

It looks to me like it is drying up. I cannot see a single green root on your pics, I know you said your roots were fine but I am suspecting otherwise or you are keeping them too dry.

The yellow white spots covering the leaf are most likely sun damage which can not only cause leaf damage but make the plant dry up excessively too.

It should be in a cooler shaded spot for the next month to recover - if it does.

But I have never had dark brown patches as big as yours - it could be a fungal infection but I am still tipping on too dry roots first..

The brown patches look to be dry. My bet would be sun damage that killed the tissue. Sometimes it can take awhile to show up: the damage occurs and the affected tissue dies over the ensuing days. The white spots look like mechanical damage: nicks and cuts that are scaring over.

If it were mine, I’d keep it out of direct sun and continue providing appropriate care. As long as the dead areas don’t continue to spread, I wouldn’t worry about them.

It really might be too dry, I will take your advice and move it to a shadier place and make sure to water when needed. My pots have holes in them and my medium is mostly bark so it might dry up quicker than I thought. I just wasn't sure what that damage could be and how to address it. I hope it recovers, thank you everybody for the advice!

I agree with Alice. Sunburn or bruising for the blackening area. If it is dry and brittle, I wouldn't worry. If it is soft, remove the tissue >1cm from the black edge using a sterile blade, dust the cut edge with powdered cinnamon.
