Will cut phal leaves end up OK?

I found two mini phals from someone in my building who must know less about orchids than I do. The poor things had several of their leaves cut and I don't know why! It looks like the person used scissors and I'm assuming didn't bother to sterilize them first. Sigh.

Anyway these phals are mine now!! I put them into full water culture. Since I'm an orchid newbie and haven't seen orchid leaves cut like this before do you think these phals have a chance? Will these leaves eventually fall off if new leaves grow? I'm committed to rescuing them if I can. Thanks.

Looks like they were sunburned, then trimmed.

They'll be fine, and yes, will drop off in time as the plant matures.

Hi Ray, thanks for your reply. I found these poor things near a sunny window and underneath an air vent blowing very warm air on them. Even though they're not "pretty" I want to try and get them healthy.
