Phal lueddemaniana "Mindanoa type" and phal schilleriana care tips
Default Phal lueddemaniana "Mindanoa type" and phal schilleriana care tips

Hi everyone!

I went to am orchid show/sale and picked up two plants from the vendor Joseph Wu orchids.

I purchased a phal lueddemaniana "Mindanao type" sibling and a phal schilleriana.

The vendor told me the phal lueddemaniana can handle lower temps so I ended up going for her. They had one in bloom which also had a beautiful fragrance. The one I bought has a spike but no blooms.

Both plants are quite small and are packed in sphagnum moss. To me they do seem packed tightly but when I asked if I should repot it the vendor said to wait until summer and then repot the lueddemaniana in fine bark. The spike that came on the lueddemaniana is a little black at the tip but the vendor said the spike still has energy to bloom. I will attach pics and would love to know your thoughts on this and if I should repot immediately and if you think this could bloom again.

The phal schilleriana I purchased is really small it's almost like a mini. The vendor said they try to get rounder leaves on it vs long ones. I was told it is flowering size. Again I would love your thoughts and opinions.

Also of anyone has any tips on the care for these two plants. They are my first species!

Thanks!

I have no answers to your questions, but they look like beautiful plants!

And in Pic 9, your cat looks like: "Hello, midnight snack!"

Cats = another reason I can only grow outdoors....

Good luck with the new plants!

I actually grow mine in moss and a clay pot. It was mounted and never thrived, so I recently repotted it.

The schilly can bloom on very, very young plants under ideal conditions. Mine didn’t, but I believe that was a culture issue and I wasn’t giving it enough light. I have seen them bloom on plants not much larger than yours.
