Default Marketplace Ads

All the old marketplace ads have been removed. Initially there was a setting not to expire ads. Now that has been removed, so from now on ads will expire automatically. Please feel free to use the marketplace, it's well integrated into the forum and has many features. Once we get more ads, I'll place it at top of the forum (swap it with random gallery photos)

Marty... You really need to get a life outside OB

Doesn't your wife ever complain about all the time you spend supporting and developing the most successful and best orchid board on the web

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

How do you (we) measure success and what can members do to help (besides get more members?)

I guess success would be if OB was THE place to go for Orchid Information. Just like, if you want to find info on the net you go to Google!

This would mean, that

- people that are into orchids, would have to know about us. Many have no clue that OB even exists. If you would like to help, contact your favourite orchid sites to include us in their links and let them know about OrchidTopSites.com.

- we need to create a self governed community that is friendly and knowledgeable and one that is willing to share, without any political games or BS (I think we already have this!)

- need to figure out how to convert the people that never join, read what interests them and leave, without adding to the pool of knowledge. The "lurkers". We have about 200-300 unique guests that visit us daily and never say a word.

but probably, what we need the most are

- new members. More people, means more orchid conversation and more participation. More members

- equals more posts. When we have more meaningful posts, search engines index us higher and we become easier to find on various topics. Which in turn, brings more members

- we need more front page articles. Those are great for improved search engine rankings and also bringing more people. (see for yourself, type in 'orchid apple pie' in google or 'orchid air management')

If OB is to succeed and become the TOP place for Orchid Info and THE Top Orchid hangout, we need as many posting people in our community as possible. Currently we're experiencing very nice growth (about 100-150 new members per month). There's no doubth in my mind that we can do it! We already have the best community with the best forum features - just not many know about us

We also need more orchid leaders. People who own orchid shops and nurseries. If they joined and became active, Im sure they would suggest us to their cutomers.

I did try to place an ad ...with my incompetence winning out... Here is the text. Can you move it to the appropriate place? or send me some newbie directions on how should place the notice? TIA

Orchid Travellers!
Some clarifications....The tour to Thailand Feb 22 -March 9 with an option to attend the 2007 IPA Symposium in Taiwan March 9-13 begins in Atlanta with some travellers possibly joining us in Los Angeles.
The Thailand portion of the trip costs a total of $4007 and includes flights, ground transportation, hotels and most meals including taxes (of course you'll bring some spending money). Participants can travel on to Taiwan for the IPA Symposium portion of the trip for just a $ 505 increase and again includes flights, ground transportation, hotels and most meals including taxes. Please note: If you take a moment to check private reservations for economy airfare on the major airlines, you'll find that airfare alone departing ATL March 8 to KHH (The most convenient airport on Taiwan) roundtrip returning March 14 is about the same cost. So you'll travel with a relatively small group of 15 orchid enthusiasts with a translator in private buses, etc. for 14 days touring through Thailand. In order to save space here in the forum, if you are interested, please send an email. I'll return a detailed day by day itinerary for your consideration.
Please know that my motivation is orchid travels ...I hope you can join us now or at a later date.

I used it. It works easily. I wondered though why it doesn't list recent posts like the rest of the forums do.
