Beallara free (for shipping cost) to good home in U.S.
(Edited Thursday, June 7, 10:22 Mountain Daylight Time, US) This plant has now found a new home and will soon be shipped to Florida where I'm sure it will appreciate the higher humidity than that which exists here in New Mexico, US. Thank you everyone for your interest.
Hello all-- I love orchids (and carnivorous plants). I have a Beallara Diana Dunn 'Mendenhall' that I have grown for about 8 years. It is a large mature plant and has bloomed beautifully.
However, it does not like the arid high plains of eastern New Mexico where I live and has struggled in our very low humidity, its leaves crinkled for lack of moisture to lubricate and separate them when they are growing.
Why don't I raise the humidity? Because I grow a number of plants (a few orchids as well as Venus Flytraps and other plants) in the sunroom/"greenhouse" with the Beallara. The others, including my favorite Cattleya-Laelia alliance orchids and the Phalaenopsis, all have adapted well to my environment. But the Beallara has not, and I would like to send it to a new loving home where there is greater humidity and where it can truly be happy and thrive. Therefore I'm offering it free for shipping cost to someone who would like it and who lives in a humid environment in the U.S. Here is a photo I took some months ago of the flowers of this plant:
I'm not sure how much the shipping would cost. I'll have to do some research to estimate. If anyone is interested in this plant, please send an email to my address: email@example.com
and please let me know your nickname/username here at orchidboard.com.
Thanks and best wishes,
