Default Here's how I created my vivarium out of an aquarium.

A new story entry has been added:

Here's how I created my vivarium out of an aquarium.

Quote:
This is how I converted an old aquarium to be a house for some orchids.
The dimension of the cabinet is 140×55×70 cm. Rather deep but that depends upon that the aquarium is place on side with original opening outwards.
This is what it looked like from the beginning.

First of all I cut the Epi-Web material for the back

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Henke, looks great, been thinking more and more about an aquarium to viv transition.

Evaregina Aboard, glad you have found the OB. Take a few moments and introduce yourself in the "Break the Ice" thread.

Henke, you make it look so easy! I wish I was mechanically inclined. How are the plants doing? Any problems? I hope you keep us updated. Good luck.

That's pretty cool. I have a set up that is similar but not that high tech. We used a reptile cage as well, the only problem is it is not water tight. I like your idea of being able to put water in the bottom for humidity and then covering it with a weed mat. I can't keep the moisture up in the cage very well so right now I don't have any orchids in it. It is just a plant tank. We have the tank lit with compact fluorescent lights that are actually for our 75 Gal. Aquarium. The plants seem to love it.

The EpiWeb looks like a good Background. Is available in the states?
Nevermind, I should have looked at Ray's first.
