Went shopping today. I bought Listerine Original formula, a couple of mist bottles, some plant stakes, some wood skewers to figure out watering schedules and a temp/humidity gage.

I suppose I'll have to write another post once I figure out how to use all this stuff.
*
Lots of stuff to learn.

I do know the reasons for each:

Hi Beth

just wanted to give you a good tip on when to water your orchid. The skewer method is good, stick it gently into the medium, pull it out if its damp DONT water yet, also look at the roots in the pots medium, again if they are green DONT water yet, wait until they change to a silvery green. Good luck, the above has helped me so much to know when to water.

Thank you Jane! I don't think she's been getting enough water, though she looks good - the potting mix gets really dry - so I've been worried about it. FINDING skewers was quite the adventure today - Walmart, no go, Lowes (looked for wooden plant spikes) no go. . .THEN I get to the little quick mart on the corner and there they are. **chuckles** I guess I was SUPPOSED to be there **wink** . . .good for candy bar cravings!

Hey Beth --

I too had trouble finding wooden skewers but ended up buying wood BBQ skewers I found at the grocery store.

Thanks, Katie, I'll look there next time - bet my feet don't get so worn out! I've never done anything with skewers so I wasn't sure where to find them. Thanks again!

Oh I'm totally new at this too. Killed my last phal because of over-watering and then under-watering....Not gonna make that mistake this time with my new orchids!
