Default Cochleanthes growing information

A new story entry has been added:

Cochleanthes growing information

Quote:
The genus Cochleanthes is a small group of orchids which they seem like pescatorea because they haven't pseudobulb and the inflorescence is pendulous or erect.
About the colture, they want high humidity ,warm-intermiedate temperatures , and the keep the plant moist but not too wet, to avoid rotten roots.
The flowers may appear in every period, but mostly in autumn or summer.

Years ago I had a wonderful Pescoranthes (Pescoratea x Cochleanthes.) It was a cool grower with regular flowers. They had a strong scent and a great fuzzy labellum. One winter we had an unusual freeze and I lost it, and I've never seen it again.

I've only seen cochleanthes plants in pictures, but never IRL.

I've grown very fond of the Maxillaria alliance, particularly the members of the zygo family (so naturally, Cochleanthes is on my wish list). I'm gonna try to get more of these "fan orchids" into my collection. I already purchased a Pescatorea lehmannii, and have managed to find a Bollea violacea. I'll add the Cochleantes when I can.

Yeah, those unusual hybrids are very uncommon. Just keep looking, and you'll probably bump into it when you least expect to.

I have had a Cochleanthes amazonica for a year and a half, and while it has not growna great deal, probably because I had it in too much light, it has put out blooms, one after another, like clockwork. It presently has one bloom and two buds. Its unusual huge lip, with violet (I think, my color vision is not too good) pinstripes. always generates comments and questions from guests.
