I'm glad ya'll are sympathizing with both my orchid-department conversations and my saving-the-dying orchids tendencies...makes me feel a little less...eccentric. LoL.

And yer super lucky to get a greenhouse job...I'd love to be getting that kind of experience...

Hi Jehannette- I, like you, am a sort of beginner. Although I have been growing off and on for at least 15 years. Now that I am retired (not of my choosing), my orchids are getting the benefits of my being home. I have more time to fertilize, insecticide and water on a more timely basis.

My question to you is - how do you get the managers at Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart to reduce their prices on the orchids. Can you give me an idea of what condition they are in and what you are paying? This way I can try my luck...when I ask they tell me they turn them back to the grower for credit.

I am in South Florida (hot, humid and sticky soon). Right now we are enjoying the somewhat cooler weather. but it's coming, like hurricane season. thanks.

S. FL: Good luck on them reducing a price on any plants. I've tried asking about that, especially when they are not marked correctly or not at all, and they act like I'm nuts!
