Default Guildlines for Growing Paphiopedilum Species of Subgenus Parvisepalum

A new story entry has been added:

Guildlines for Growing Paphiopedilum Species of Subgenus Parvisepalum

Quote:
My favorite part of orchid growing, which would then also be my favorite part of botany and horticulture as well, is the group of Paphiopedilum species known as the Parvisepalums. Many refer to these as the "Chinese" Paphs, or simply as "Parvis".

Good article there, I grow most of these and hybrids as well. Hangianum is the main one I struggle with, not sure why it's so difficult to grow, I've tried cool and warm growing.

Hopefully more information becomes available about its culture over time. Thanks for the article.

I haven't had my hangianum for very long and am currently growing it under intermediate conditions. With any luck it will do well. Through my own experience and with my extensive and constant research, I will update this article with any information I can gather. Thanks for reading!

Thank you for your article. It is very useful for me, because I grow Paphs vietnamenses, Ho chi Minh and Magic Lantern and I agree they are not very difficult to grow in Belgium. Maybe you must added that Paph delenatii needs an acidic substrate on the contrary of the others which needs some limestone.

I'm glad the article was useful to you. I didn't include the bit on the acidic/alkaline substrates because although in the wild this is true, all Parvis will grow in a neutral to slightly acidic mix in cultivation and lime doesn't need to be added to the mix of any of the species mentioned here, contrary to popular belief (which in addition to my own experience can be validated by Koopowitz's book, Tropical Slipper Orchids). I did write that Paph delenatii is tolerant of hard water but grows better with pure water; this is largely because of the effect that hard water has on pH.
