Have mature Phal. New to this. Lots of good strong (not shriveled) roots coming out of each level (4) of leaves. How do I spilit this or should I? Blooms several times per year and while last spike is just shedding flowers, new spike is growing from the next level as we speak. Afraid to destroy the healthy leaves/spike by cutting.
That's correct...you can't split a solitary phal...there isn't anything to divide. It isn't like a succulent that you can wack off the top and replant it and new growth will emerge from the remaining base. If you are lucky enough to have a plant (phal) with 2 plants in the same pot, usually because of a basal keiki, then you can divide the two into separate plants.
I didn't...but I used to be and, on a limited basis, still am in to cactus and succulents. At one time, I had a rather sizable collection in a 16 x 20 GH...but that was in my other life
