The College where I work just put up a brand new all glass greenhouse. Its not to big, about 30 feet long, by 12 wide and 12 tall.
Its only got one layer of benches so far, and two walkways.
Now for the bad news, they are gonna waste it on, you didnt guess it, Potato plants

My DH is wanting to build a house out of windows and storm doors. (He's in construction).Mainly because its getting hard to move around on the porch. Will this work? I am in Galveston county. Never had a greenhouse, but always wanted one. Thanks, Gladys

As long as he plans for proper ventilation, a glass house out of windows and storm doors should be just fine! I somewhere saw a book of greenhouse designs that actually had a house made of scraps, so to speak! Tell him to build it BIG, though...

One of the growers around here (Green Acres) has one greenhouse that I think is composed entirely (or mostly) of large skylights. Anderson brand, I think. Nice!

My GH. is made of used glass materials . Glass from long show cases with a 2 by 4 between them. On the west is a sliding patio door also one on the east, there was one on the south until we extended the GH .It started out 12 by 16 now it is 12x24 .
If we were to build another one would add extra width my old one was 16 wide by 24 . Gin

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I'm afraid if I say 16x24 his eyes will get huge and he'll head for the hills!Maybe i can sneak it on him a bit at a time in the building stage.Still kind of planning it out in my head. Thanks, Gladys

Gladys,

Just remind him of the 'Orchid Rule for Greenhouses' -- figure out the largest size greenhouse you can afford and then double it. You will have no trouble filling the GH regardless of the size you end up with. Better to err on too much room than not enough. Besides, larger greenhouses are generally easier to control (compared to small ones) in terms of temperature swings.

Isn't that the same rule that applies to Windowsill , under lights and grow rooms! Never too much space.
