Default Peristeria elata, where to find one?

Does anyone know of a good and REASONABLE source that sells P. elata? The only place I have found wants upwards of $200 for a plant....um, I love my orchids, but that's a lot of money in my world. Thank you for any leads!

There aren't many people that come to mind that sell this species, but try Jerry Fischer at Orchids Limited.

Who is selling Peristeria elata at $300? How large is this specimen?

Funny that you should mention Orchids Limited, as that was where I found the plant in question. They have it marked in an 8 inch pot, so it's huge. EFG had them had the WOC for $45 and I am now kicking myself for passing on them, thinking I might find one for a little cheaper.... I will check the ebay auctions. Thank you guys for all of the responses. I may have a place to spend my government check........

Hey Sue, didn't I send you a piece of my Peristeria elata f. major?
Knee surgery? I hope you recover well and feel better!

I agree, the P. elata seems to be WAY overpriced! I obtained mine for free, and it is just a weed now! Should be planted as a terrestrial for optimum growth (also deters drying out of p-bulbs).

For a 3 bulb, VERY mature division, a good price should be around $20, though a local grower in Sarasota sells them at $10. I think the reason that this species may be sold at an exorbitant price is because it is listed on CITES App. I, which in reality, doesn't mean much. You will find similar exorbitant prices with the very common Cattleya trianae or even Renanthera imshootiana... It's just a marketing scheme to add some "rarity" to it.

Vanessa, this is one I've had on my wish-list forever! I had made arrangements for one of the vendors from Malaysia to bring one to the WOC for me at $25.00! When I got there, he told me he couldn't bring it because the permit to bring in just one of them was too high a price...and the search continues

Peristeria alata is a CITES Appendix I orchid, so there is no wonder you can't get one imported!

I was hoping that it could get in with all the plants they were importing for the WOC...very disappointing to find it wasn't there...and the vendor felt terrible
